Education and work
Currently, I'm heading up Communications Design at ProsperWorks, working as a brand designer with one other designer and a web developer focused on bringing our brand and marketing efforts to life.
My professional design career began as a freelancer working with my own clients, and as a contractor for a small studio. I enjoyed the work, but recognized that I was limited by my lack of formal training in the principles of design. Determined to change that, I pursued an education in design and art, earning my BFA in graphic design at California College of the Arts.
While I school, I worked as a web designer, and took an internship at Chronicle Books. Immediately following graduation, I was hired as a designer at AppDirect. Taking a position at such a rapidly growing startup gave me the opportunity to grow and explore just about every imaginable corner of design. Over the course of four years at AppDirect, I applied my skills to everything from websites, logos, iconography, editorial illustrations, trade show booths, t-shirts, apparel, and three editions of our annual "yearbook" (my personal favorite).
As a leader on the AppDirect design team, I managed two other designers, and worked with the Director of Design to support the growth of the team at large.
Outside of work, my time is spent taking photos (mostly iPhone, but occasionally 35mm), listening to podcasts, writing music, quietly browsing used book stores, and watching TV shows that are honestly too embarrassing to document here.
